There’s a perception of pro athletes that they have the world at their fingers. They live in the big houses, they make a ton of money doing what many of us only wish we could do. They date Instagram models, supermodels, and pop singers. To the average human we will never experience a minute of that lifestyle, so in a way it just seems disingenuous for a multi millionaire to speak on our struggles when we can’t picture them having any. It is different. Artists, particularly musicians, are spreading messages first. Fans do turn on musicians whose music is apolitical but whose personal messaging conflicts with the fans’ political or cultural views. But art, including music, is inherently a personal message. Sports are selling athletic contests. They are game shows. Fans buy in to the contest and participants they connect with. Personal messaging is secondary at most. There aren’t a lot of die hard fans of any athlete who started religiously watching the sport because the fan felt a connection with the athlete’s personal messaging.
