And this was the context in which Trump denied that he was talking about white nationalists. All right, so who are these people who were just there to protest the removal of the statues? Who was the group protesting “the night before”? That’s right. The people marching in Charlottesville the night before were the guys with torches chanting “blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us.” It may be convenient for your argument to limit the scope of the discussion to the last day of the protests, and to assume that Trump was also only referring to the last day in his remarks. I have no idea exactly who was, or was not, in attendance on any given day. I am speaking broadly about the event as a whole, and I believe that Trump was speaking that way as well.
