Considering the immense amount of Funny Bee Amazing #2nd Grade Shirt diversity in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal we've got quite a few people who are immigrant Canadians (or first/second gen) that have very different accents, as home life determines a lot of what kind of accent you have.While in Britain you can usually tell one town from the next simply by accent, and in America one state to the next, in Canada the only accents most people are likely to pick up on are either the Québécois or Newfoundlanders. (That's not to say we don't have accents throughout the country, they're usually just not as noticeable).If you ask a Canadian (while in Canada) where they're from, they'll almost certainly tell you their background as Italian, Scottish, Russian, Filipino, etc. (even if they're a few generations removed). In my experience if you ask an American the same thing you'll often get blank stares and/or "what do you mean, I'm American". (Of course, if we're abroad we usually tell people we're Canadian, it's context dependent).My neighbors have distinctive Italian accents, and two houses down you can tell they're Chilean. Many of my friends from elementary school had some am.
