She started talking to me about Canada, etc... next time we go overseas I may have to make it obvious we’re Canadian.When I was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in what they now call Eswatini, a shopkeeper asked if I was Canadian. I answered, “No, I’m American. I do have to ask, why do you ask if I’m Canadian?” He replied “I used to ask people if they were Americans, and the Canadians would get very angry, but Americans don’t seem to mind.” This was a long time ago. Jimmy Carter was US President, and Donald Trump Jr was too young to be murdering endangered species for sport.I've been told to sew a Canadian flag on my backpack to get treated better. I just always try to show people that were not all the same. Learn some of their language and customs, people see the effort and a good attitude and are more welcoming. Wish this wasn't the case, but I understand that some of us show up and are vocal about the new place not being the exact same as the USA. Hmmm. That's why we go to these places. Learn from them. There's so much out there.
